PHYLLIS FRELICH: GUEST PRESENTER

(Boston, MA) A SHOW OF HANDS: A CELEBRATION OF DEAF THEATRE proudly announces Phyllis Frelich has accepted the honor of Guest Presenter. Phyllis Frelich is best known as the 1980 Tony Award winner for her portrayal of Sarah in Mark Medoff's CHILDREN OF A LESSER GOD, and for her Emmy-nominated role as Janice in the 1985 Hallmark Hall of Fame film, LOVE IS NEVER SILENT. She performed opposite Richard Dreyfuss in Mr. Medoff’s THE HANDS OF ITS ENEMY at the Mark Taper Forum and created the role of Frances in Beth Henley's THE DEBUTANTE BALL at the South Coast Repertory Theatre.

Ms. Frelich is proud to have been one of the founding members of The National Theatre of the Deaf with whom she performed on Broadway, throughout the United States and a good part of the rest of the world, in such roles as Polly Garter in SONGS FROM MILK WOOD and Marie in WOYZECK.

This will be a three-day event, November 17-19, 2005 in which distinguished American Deaf theatre artists, including the internationally-known Russian Deaf theatre company, Nedoslov, showcase their work alongside that of regional community groups, and interact with Deaf and hearing children and adults of the greater Boston area by means of performances in American Sign Language (ASL), workshops, and panel discussions.

The Festival will be held at ACT Roxbury's newly renovated Hibernian Hall in Dudley Square nearby Northeastern University. Tickets will be sold at Combo ($55), Senior Citizen/Student ($45), and Children’s prices (n/a). Tickets will not be sold at the door.
